About Dr. Cook
Trauma and Addiction therapist IN WALNUT CREEK & ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA
My work is influenced by both my lived (42 years) and work (21 years) experience (+ a lot of school) and blends together a variety of approaches, from trauma-informed care, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and depth psychology (think Carl Jung), to mindfulness, humanistic-existential therapy, and CBT. I work primarily with adults and couples who find themselves carrying a lot – trauma, stress, tough childhoods, and unseen pain.
a little more about me...
IT'S SO NICE TO MEET YOU!
I’ve worked in the mental health field for over 20 years, both as a therapist, and also in research and teaching. I’ve written books and am the co-founder of a mental health app (InnerChild), but the best part of my job has always been working one-on-one with clients and helping them find safety and strength in themselves and re-connection to what truly matters to them. It’s an honor (and so very very cool) to watch clients grow into their authentic selves, feel more grounded and present, and realize how much good they deserve.
I think therapy should be warm, challenging, and fun; there will be laughter, tears, and a lot of big questions (and swearing). My style is very authentic and kind, insight-driven, and attachment-oriented.
Finding a therapist your trust and feel comfortable with is the best predictor of the efficacy of therapy; if any of the above sounds like your jam, I’d love to chat with you and see if we might be a good fit.
